Officer rescues cat, two dogs from burning Lake Grove apartment
A cat was rescued from a burning apartment in Lake Grove Friday by a Fourth Precinct officer, who moments later returned to retrieve the pet owner's two dogs, Suffolk police said.
The fire on Hy Place started about 2 p.m., and when Officer Eli Tretola arrived, the resident told him she had rescued her Rottweiler and Shetland sheepdog but her cat was still inside, police said.
Tretola carried out the black-and-white cat named Yoda, then learned from the owner that the dogs had run back into the apartment, police said. He went back in and made another successful rescue.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated but appears to be noncriminal, police said.
The blaze was put out by the Centereach, Selden and Ronkonkoma fire departments.
