A 52-year-old man pulled from his burning Port Jefferson Station house by Terryville firefighters Monday night was later pronounced dead at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the man, Gerald Berberich, was unconscious when volunteers pulled him from the home at 61 Davis Avenue after responding to the call at 10:07 p.m. It was not immediately clear Tuesday where in the home Berberich was found.

Police said the cause of the blaze does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

However, the incident remains under investigation by Homicide and Arson Squad detectives, police said Tuesday.

Police said Berberich lived alone and no one else was in the home during the fire.
