A passenger in a vehicle that drove into oncoming traffic Friday on Ocean Parkway just west of Cedar Beach was seriously injured, police said.

Sandra Martinez-Lopez, of Wyandanch, was driving a Honda Pilot west on Ocean Parkway about 12:30 p.m. when she tried to make a U-turn east of Cedar Beach but instead failed to negotiate the curve and drove through the on-ramp and entered the eastbound lanes of the roadway, striking a GMC Yukon, State Police said in a news release.

Patricia Amaya, who was riding in Martinez-Lopez’s sport utility vehicle, was airlifted to Stony Brook Medical Center, where she is listed in serious but stable condition, police said. All other vehicle occupants were taken to either Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip or Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

Police closed Ocean Parkway for about three hours while they investigated the accident. No criminality is suspected but the investigation is ongoing.
