Bay constables evacuated passengers from a 40-foot motor yacht after it became disabled inside the tide gates of the Shinnecock Locks Sunday.

Southampton Town police said the incident began at about 8:30 p.m. inside the locks -- and that bay constables Mark Ruocco and Al Tuzzolo were able to evacuate many of the 10 passengers aboard the yacht as a precaution.

Police said that when the boat became disabled it was pinned against the tide gates -- and needed to be towed.

No one was injured and the boat was finally towed from the locks at about 9:30 p.m., police said. The locks were then reopened to boat traffic.
