Police: Clerk sold alcohol to a minor
A clerk at a Selden gas station was arrested Thursday night after selling alcohol to a minor during an undercover operation, Suffolk County police said. Police said clerks at six other area stores refused to sell alcohol to the operative.
Sahin Nayci, 48, of 10 Cavalier Lane, Holtsville, was arrested and charged with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child, police said. Nayci is a clerk at the Citgo gas station on Route 25 in Selden where police said he sold the alcohol to one of two underage volunteer operatives who assisted police.
The undercover operation was conducted between 9 and 11:45 p.m. at stores in Medford, Centereach, Port Jefferson Station, Coram and Selden. Police said clerks at a U.S. Petroleum station on Route 112 in Medford, the BP station on Route 347 in Centereach, the Mobil gas station on Route 112 in Selden, the Circle C on Route 25 in Selden, the Speedy Mart on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station and at JJ Deli on Route 25 in Centereach all refused to sell alcohol to the underage undercover operatives.
Nayci, the clerk at the Citgo station, is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 9 in First District Court in Central Islip.
