Police: Man dies in two-vehicle accident in North Patchogue
A Patchogue man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in North Patchogue early Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.
Anthony Baldassarre, 73, was driving a 2009 Toyota westbound on Vehslage Street at about 5:05 a.m. when he was struck by a pickup truck driving north on County Road 83, also known as North Ocean Avenue, police said.
Baldassarre was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, police said in a news release.
Christopher Young, 22, of Bay Shore, the driver of the pickup, a 2011 Chevrolet, also was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital with what police said are injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
North Ocean Avenue was closed for about three hours in both directions between Woodside Avenue and Shaber Road as police investigated the crash, a department spokeswoman said.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
Detectives are asking anyone who might have more information on the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
