Police: West Islip woman charged with DWI after hitting tree
A West Islip woman was arrested on charges of allegedly driving drunk on the Southern State Parkway Monday night after crashing her car into a tree, State Police said.
Police responded to a call regarding a one-car accident around 11:22 p.m. near Exit 35 in North Lindenhurst, on the eastbound side of the parkway. When they arrived, they found a blue BMW off the shoulder and in the woods and the car's driver in an ambulance.
After questioning the car's passenger, police said they noticed the driver, Donnamarie Scipione, 28, of 1240 Oak St., West Islip, smelled of alcohol and showed signs of intoxication as she was being treated for a cut on her forehead.
Scipione refused a blood test at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and she was charged with a felony DWI, police said.
Scipione was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
