Fire damages Riverhead Home Depot
The Home Depot in Riverhead suffered extensive damage Monday when a fire which started in an outdoor area with lawn furniture quickly spread to the exterior of the building, town police said.
No one was injured in the blaze, which began at around 12:30 p.m. at the store on Old Country Road.
Riverhead Police said the fire began outside the store, burning dozens of plastic lawn chairs outside the building, officials said. The blaze then spread to the exterior of the building, causing extensive damage, police said.
The Riverhead Fire Department, which responded to the scene, along with store officials, did not respond to requests for comment.
The store remained closed Monday.
The Town Fire Marshal and the Suffolk County Arson Squad responded to the scene and determined that the fire appears to be non-criminal.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Riverhead Town Police at 631-727-4500.
