Riverhead pedestrian hit by vehicle, police say

A man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with a serious head injury after police said he was struck by a car late Thursday night in Riverhead.
The condition of the victim, whose identity was not released, was not known Friday.
Riverhead Town Police said the accident occurred at the intersection of West Main Street and Marcy Avenue at about 10:40 p.m. The driver remained at the scene and rendered first aid to the victim, State Police said.
State Police, whose accident reconstruction team investigated, said investigators determined that the victim was standing in the roadway when he was struck by the car, which was headed eastbound on West Main Street.
No criminality is suspected, police said.
