Huntington Station man shot in the groin, police say

Suffolk police said they are investigating a Huntington Station shooting Wednesday night that left a man with nonlife-threatening injuries.

At about 9:35 p.m., Sheldon Leftenant, 23, was standing in front of his home on Tippin Drive when two vehicles drove by, and someone fired a gun, police said. The bullet struck Leftenant in the groin, police said.

Leftenant was taken to Huntington Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. He was later moved to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where he was undergoing surgery, police said.

Suffolk police said early Thursday morning that no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
