Southold Town will seek candidates for the town’s comptroller position after Comptroller John Cushman recently told officials he would retire next month.
According to Southold Supervisor Scott Russell, Cushman, who is retiring after 30 years with the town, told the town board earlier this month he would retire effective March 6.
The town was reviewing resumes from several candidates for the appointed position, Russell said. There is no set date to fill the position, said Russell, as the board wanted time to attract and review top qualified candidates.
At Tuesday’s town board meeting, officials acknowledged Cushman’s intent to retire and thanked him for his service.
“Supervisors come and go, elected officials come and go, but a good comptroller is hard to find, and that’s what John has been,” Russell said.
