THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $27,363,315 budget for 2015-16, a 2.65 percent increase from the current $26,657,873. The local tax levy would rise 1.58 percent, from $24,073,824 to $24,453,200.

The increase is within the state's tax-cap limit of 1.58 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family home would increase 2.46 percent, from $5,763 to $5,905.

Salary increases for teachers are estimated at 1 percent contract and 3 percent step, subject to negotiations. Current program and staffing levels are maintained.

Ballot propositions ask voters to authorize an agreement with the East Hampton School District for the education of Springs students in grades 9 to 12; to enter into an installment purchase agreement for a wheelchair accessible van, at a cost of up to $78,000; and to spend $2 million from a capital reserve fund to expand parking, a student drop-off loop and other school projects.
