Sun for now, but snow on weekend
The sun is out. Enjoy it while you can - forecasters at the National Weather Service said it's going to snow again Saturday, though thankfully without any real accumulation.
Meanwhile, subfreezing temperatures remain and will likely be the norm Thursday and Friday before soaring into the low 40s Saturday - after we're hit by rain and snow showers, the weather service said.
There is a chance of that rain turning back to snow again after 10 p.m. Saturday.
Sunshine and temperatures in the high 30s are expected to return again Sunday.
The weather service had warned of difficult travel Thursday morning, with black ice expected.
However, most major roads were surprisingly clear - though icy patches remained on some secondary roads.
Officials warned of falling ice from bridges, overpasses, trees and other structures. On Wednesday, authorities had to close the upper deck of the Verrazano Bridge because of falling ice.
The sun could cause more thawing Thursday, creating runoff that will likely refreeze overnight as temperatures fall back into the low teens.
That could cause black ice conditions again on Friday. Caution is urged.
