Woman seriously hurt in two-car crash that closed Sunrise Highway in East Patchogue for hours today, police say
A Mastic woman was hospitalized with serious injuries following a two-car crash that closed westbound Sunrise Highway in East Patchogue for hours Thursday morning, police said.
Suffolk County police said a second driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Police said the crash occurred near Hospital Road around 6:45 a.m. when Stephanie Vilien-Morisseau, driving a 2007 Nissan Altima, suffered a tire blowout — causing her car to "swerve across lanes" and collide with a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by William Florenzo, 47, of Mastic Beach. The Altima then collided with a guardrail, police said.
Vilien-Morisseau, 37, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, and police said Florenzo also was taken to Stony Brook for treatment of minor injuries.
The New York State Department of Transportation 511 NY website reported the road was closed for hours between Sills Road and North Ocean Avenue.
Police said it was reopened around noon.
Police said both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
