A Lindenhurst man was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a sport utility vehicle as he walked along Sunrise Highway on Friday, police said.

Suffolk County police said Gavin Charrette, 29, was hit by a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Angela Dambrosio, 23, as he walked along Sunrise near Straight Path at 6:52 a.m. Police said Dambrosio, of Bay Shore, was making a right turn from a parking lot onto westbound Sunrise when she struck Charrette.

She remained at the scene and was not charged.

Police said Charrette was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with undisclosed injuries. The investigation into the accident is continuing.

The New York State Department of Transportation reported the accident closed westbound Sunrise Highway in the area at about 7:30 a.m. All lanes reopened at 9:43 a.m., the DOT said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
