Pedestrian killed in Sunrise Highway collision in Bohemia, Suffolk police say

A pedestrian was struck by a Jeep Wrangler on Sunrise Highway in Sayville Tuesday morning and later died, Suffolk police said.
Amjed Hussain, 63, who police said had no permanent residence, was crossing a westbound ramp to the highway near hit Lakeland Avenue about 6:45 a.m. when the Jeep hit him.
The victim was transported by Sayville Community Ambulance "in traumatic arrest" with advanced life support provided by two paramedics to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, according to an email statement from Jamie Atkinson, president of the ambulance company.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
The driver of the Jeep, David Arkow, 46, of Sayville, was not injured, according to police.
Investigators impounded the Jeep for a safety check. Detectives ask anyone with information to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
