The man whose 26-foot blue motor boat washed up on Fire Island empty on Sunday has been identified as a 52-year-old from Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County police said Thursday morning.

The boater, Todd Mauro, left the South Shore Boat Yard in Patchogue on Sunday and was last seen at about 11:30 a.m., police said.

The empty boat was found on Smith Point Beach at around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Suffolk Marine Police Bureau officers are continuing their search, a police spokeswoman said Thursday.

The Coast Guard said it also searched for the missing boater Monday, but suspended its efforts that night.
