Huntington Town board member Tracey Edwards is running for town supervisor.

Edwards, a Democrat, made the announcement Tuesday night at a fundraiser at Pancho Villa’s restaurant in downtown Huntington.

“I’m excited,” said Edwards, 55, of Dix Hills. “It’s not about me, it’s about Huntington, Huntington families and Huntington businesses. I absolutely love this town, I’m passionate about it; I want to be a part of the team moving it forward.”

Edwards was elected to the town board in 2013 after running unsuccessfully in 2001 and 2003. This is her first bid for supervisor.

She retired from Verizon in September as regional president for operations and construction after 37 years with the company.

Edwards has served on the Elwood school board and as chairwoman of the Huntington Planning Board. She is currently Long Island regional director for the NAACP.

“I will work so hard for you,” Edwards told the crowd. “I’m going for it.”

Town Supervisor Frank Petrone, who is retiring after six terms, introduced Edwards to the packed room and enthusiastically endorsed her.

“She is a leader who will bring Huntington to the next level,” he said. “She’s my candidate.”

So far, high school teacher Darryl St. George of Centerport and former Democratic Nassau Legis. Brian Muellers of South Huntington also have declared their intentions to run for supervisor.
