Woman killed in Veterans Memorial Highway crash in Islandia
A woman died Friday after the car in which she was a passenger collided with another vehicle on Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia, Suffolk County police said Saturday.
The woman, who has not yet been identified by police, was a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet Impala driven by Jose Roberto Garcia northwest on Veterans Memorial Highway at about 7:10 p.m., police said.
While making a left turn on Suffolk Avenue, the Impala collided with a 2015 Audi A4 traveling southeast, police said. The Impala overturned, landing right side up, police said.
The woman was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was pronounced dead, police said. Garcia, 40, of Brentwood, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
The driver of the Audi, Robert Salzer, 43, of Ronkonkoma, and his wife, Sarah Salzer, 31, who was a passenger in the Audi, were transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
The collision remains under investigation. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to contact police at 631-854-8452.
