Vice President Joe Biden to attend East End fundraiser
Vice President Joe Biden will attend an Obama campaign fundraiser in Bridgehampton on Aug. 24.
"The fact that they're having an event here is important in that they recognize the East End is an important part of Suffolk County and important in the economy," Southampton Town Democratic Committee chairman Gordon Herr said. "I also believe they recognize the role local Congressman Tim Bishop plays in Congress and how important they view the race he's running this year."
Bishop (D-Southampton) also will attend, along with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand D-N.Y.) and Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.). President Barack Obama will not attend.
The event will be held in the home of Ellen Chesler and Matthew Mallow and hosted by actor Nathan Lane. The host committee -- guests who have contributed $10,000 or more -- includes actress Julianne Moore and fashion designers Isaac Mizrahi and Vera Wang. According to the invitation, ticket prices are $500 for "under 30" attendees and $1,000 for a general ticket.
Obama's opponent, Mitt Romney, attended a campaign fundraiser in Southampton in July. Tickets for that started at $50,000.
Herr said he did not believe Obama's absence would affect the East End's support for him.
