A student on his way to West Islip High School was struck by a car and critically injured Monday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Christopher Wilson, 16, was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.

Wilson was crossing Montauk Highway at Barberry Road when he was struck by a 1996 Buick Century about 7 a.m., Sgt. Tony Lavista of the Third Squad said.

Lavista said an investigation was continuing and there were no charges at this point against the driver, Dorothy Upton, 84, of Deer Park.

Her vehicle was impounded for a safety check, the sergeant said.
