An Orient man, bloody and walking near a home in Greenport on Friday night, yelled obscenities at police officers and attempted to engage them in a fight, according to Southold Town police.

William Mokus, 22, was subdued by officers after he resisted arrest, police said. He is charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment after he spit on an officer while in a holding cell at police headquarters, according to police.

Southold police said they received a 911 call at about 10:15 p.m. of multiple people fighting on Linnet Street in Greenport. When officers arrived they found Mokus walking around a porch in the 800 block of Linnet Street in a combative manner, police said.

Mokus was bloodied and had been involved in a previous physical altercation, police said. Mokus cursed at the responded officers and challenged them to fight, according to police.

He was held overnight and will be arraigned in Southold Town Justice Court.
