Woman critically hurt in Southampton crash dies, officials say
A woman from Germany who was critically injured in a head-on crash last week in Southampton has died, hospital officials said Tuesday.
Charlotte Meyer, 20, one of two women hospitalized after the Hill Street collision Wednesday involving two SUVs, died in Stony Brook University Hospital.
Police said the driver of a westbound Lexus SUV crossed into the eastbound lane and slammed into the 2015 Audi Q5 driven by Luisa S. Keszler, 26, of Southampton. Meyer was a passenger in the Audi.
Dr. Babak Maharlouei, 45, an anesthesiologist who works out of Southampton Hospital, encountered the crash and treated Meyer along with medics until she was airlifted with Keszler to Stony Brook University Hospital.
Keszler remained at the hospital Tuesday, where she was listed in serious condition, hospital officials said.
The Lexus driver was also taken to Stony Brook, treated for undisclosed injuries and released.
Southampton Village Det. Sgt. Herman Lamison has said no charges were filed in the case but the probe was continuing.
