The MTA is expanding service on Monday to shuttle revelers to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manhattan. But the agency announced a zero-tolerance policy on all hooch, nips and pox bottles.
They’re banning alcohol on all Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North trains from 5 a.m. on Monday to 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
The LIRR is adding two westbound trains on the Babylon line and two on the Ronkonkoma line, all of which will stop at Grand Central Madison, a short walk from the parade route along Fifth Avenue.
New York City's St. Patrick’s Day Parade is said to be the world’s oldest and largest. It spans about 35 blocks along Fifth Avenue, starting from East 44th Street and ending at East 79th Street.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and is expected to draw about 2 million people. Its expansive lineup can be found online, and includes aides to the grand marshal, Marian Cronin, representing Nassau County, and Gerard Belmont, representing Suffolk. The Saffron United Pipe Band from Suffolk is scheduled to perform at 11:30 a.m.
