An 86-year-old man who apparently navigated his vehicle around lowered safety gates was struck by a non-passenger LIRR train in East Rockaway on Monday afternoon, MTA Police said. Service on the Long Island Rail Road's Long Beach branch line between Lynbrook and Long Beach was restored shortly after 5 p.m., almost two hours after the accident, railroad officials said.
