Motorcyclist Bryan Rubio, of Bay Shore, killed in Southern State Parkway crash in Bellmore
A Bay Shore motorcyclist was killed and the drivers of two other vehicles were evaluated for minor injuries following a three-vehicle crash that forced the closure of all westbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway between Exits 24 and 25 for hours on Friday in North Bellmore, New York State Police said.
The driver of a 2005 Honda motorcycle, Bryan Rubio, 25, died at the scene, state police said.
The state police identified the drivers of the other two vehicles as Osman Ozbek, 23, of West Hempstead, who was operating a 2011 Toyota Prius, and MD Hossain, 45, of Brooklyn, who was driving a 2024 Honda CRV.
The collision caused major morning rush-hour delays westbound, as traffic was diverted off the parkway at Exit 25, with significant rubbernecking delays eastbound that stretched back to the Meadowbrook State Parkway entrance to the Southern State in Merrick.
The crash was reported about 2:30 a.m., state police said.
The roadway was reopened at 7:56 a.m.
The crash scene was located on the westbound parkway near the Bellmore Avenue overpass. Police said details were still emerging and would not characterize factors being considered by investigators, but were asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 631-756-3300. All calls will remain confidential.
