Dozens of veterans and residents gathers at the Covanta Huntington Resource Recovery Facility in East Northport in honor of Flag Day and to properly retire a worn American flag.
In recognition of Flag Day, members of Long Island veterans groups perform a flag retirement ceremony at the Covanta Huntington facility in East Northport on Friday. The ceremony marks the formal culmination of Covanta’s year-round efforts to support local veteran groups in collecting old, unserviceable American flags that are no longer in use and disposing of them properly.
