Weekend brings last chance for peak fall foliage on LI

Here it is — a last chance to catch Long Island’s fall foliage at its peak.

Both upcoming weekend days are set to present sunny skies, with Saturday, the chiller of the two, bringing highs around the upper 40s — heading back up to the mid to upper 50s for Sunday, the National Weather Service says.

In Nassau County, “expect near complete leaf change and peak to just past peak yellow, orange, purple and brown leaves of average brilliance,” according to the Fall Foliage Report, issued weekly at iloveny.com by the state of New York.

In Suffolk, you’re getting “peak to just past peak foliage this weekend with yellow, orange, red, purple and brown leaves of average brilliance,” according to the report, which is based on input from foliage spotters on the Island.

Peak colors will also be on display in New York City, with “muted shades of orange, yellow and red predominate.”

With most of the rest of the state’s foliage at the past-peak stage, this week’s report is the final one of the season.
