Emily Lipari
Runner of the Year

Roslyn
Distance, Senior

Lipari was undefeated in distance races in Nassau and Suffolk this season and extended her dominance beyond Long Island by winning the 1,500-meter Federation title in a meet-record 4:28.21. She went a step further the following week by taking home her second straight mile national championship in a time of 4:42.64 at the Nike Nationals in Boston.

Destiny Lalane
Bay Shore
Walk, Senior

Lalane's career progression in the walk was both seamless and gradual. The senior reached nearly every goal she set, winning the 1,500-meter Federation title in 7:06.94. A week later she won the national 1,600-meter championship in 7:29.31. Lalane's personal-best time of 6:57.85, which was the top mark in the state this season, was set at the Long Island Invitational.

Kelsey Margey
Harborfields
1,000, Sophomore

It was an impressive first season for the sophomore, who played basketball her freshman year. She won the 1,000-meter Federation title in 2:51.87. Margey's victory at Cornell wasn't just a one-time thing, she also won the Suffolk qualifier, the Suffolk Small Schools title and the Long Island Invitational.

Colleen Schmidt
Holy Trinity
Distance, Junior

With the exception of Emily Lipari, Schmidt established herself as the most consistent distance runner on Long Island. Schmidt dominated CHSAA distance events, winning the CHSAA Intersectional 1,500 title in 4:44.20 and the 3,000 in 10:05.51. She was third in the 1,500 (4:40.37) at the Federation meet and second in the 3,000 (9:56.39).

Vanessa Stewart
North Babylon
Shot put, Senior

Stewart was undefeated on Long Island in the shot put, winning the Suffolk Large Schools title, the Suffolk state qualifier and Long Island Invitational at St. Anthony's. That success helped carry the senior to a second-place finish in the event with a toss of 45-2 at the Federation. She placed third at the Nike Nationals with a throw of 45 1/4.
