Some of the Island’s towns and cities are coordinating Sept. 11 commemorations:
Babylon
The Town of Babylon and the Babylon Fire Chiefs Association will host a memorial ceremony Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the 9/11 Hometown Memorial, between Overlook and Cedar beaches on Ocean Parkway.

Hempstead
Hempstead Town will hold its seaside memorial service at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Town Park Point Lookout. The ceremony is one of reflection and solace, and includes an interactive program honoring the victims of the attacks, based around a 35-foot panorama of New York’s skyline with a reverse shadow box of the majestic twin towers. Visitors will be invited to write the names of 9/11 victims on the panorama at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Huntington
The Town of Huntington’s ceremony will take place Tuesday at noon at the 9/11 Memorial in Heckscher Park.

Islip
The Town of Islip will commemorate 9/11 on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park, adjacent to Town Hall (655 Main St.). The names of 90 people with ties to Islip who died on 9/11 will be read during the ceremony.

Long Beach
The city will host its 9/11 Remembrance Gathering on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Long Beach Recreation Center, 700 Magnolia Blvd.

North Hempstead
The Town of North Hempstead will hold a memorial service Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at Clark Botanic Garden, 193 I.U. Willets Rd., Albertson.

Oyster Bay
Oyster Bay Town’s residents will gather at Tobay Beach’s memorial monument at 7 tonight to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11. For the first time since the memorial was built in 2005, family members of victims who lived in the town will read the names of their loved ones during the ceremony.
