Area needs more assisted living homes
Regarding "Assisted living facility debated at hearing" [News, March 28], I have an 87-year-old old mother who has Alzheimer's disease and lives in an assisted-living facility nearby. Every day I am grateful for the care they give her.
What needs to be clarified is that these places do not produce the traffic and noise that are concerning everyone. Deliveries are not every day. Even if the residents do sit outside, which is rare, they are very quiet. Most of them require the aid of a walker or an aide to help them walk outside and are just glad to be out in the fresh air for a few minutes.
Smithtown needs more affordable assisted-living facilities. Not only would they bring much-needed venues to our town, but also jobs. I challenge people to visit one of the facilities and see what wonderful additions they are to our community.
I would much rather live in an assisted living home in Smithtown near family than anywhere else. I hope the Smithtown board approves this facility because we are all going to need it one day.
