The news of the demise of the Bayville farmers’ market may have been premature.

Two potential supporters have expressed interest in keeping the market going this summer, village officials said Monday.

Mayor Doug Watson said earlier this month that the village-sponsored market, held Saturday mornings in the center of the business district, had become too much work for him, other village officials and volunteers.

Watson and Deputy Mayor Kate Naughton said Monday that one individual and one company have expressed interest in keeping the market going. Watson said the two “seem to have enough of a track record” to take on the project so “we should probably be able to have a Green Market this summer without the village having to run it anymore.”

Naughton said she will be meeting with the interested parties then would make a recommendation to the board in time for the market to begin operating Memorial Day weekend.

In past years, the village purchased produce to resell and vendors paid the village a small fee to sell cupcakes, tomatoes, pickles, artwork and jewelry.
