Bill Belichick makes appearance at Timberwolves game
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Bill Belichick took a break from Super Bowl LII preparations Thursday night to sit courtside at the Timberwolves’ NBA game against the Bucks.
Belichick and Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau have been friends since Thibodeau was an assistant with the Celtics from 2007-10. And in 2012, Thibodeau was invited to a Patriots practice.
“I watch every game,” Thibodeau, a product of New Britain, Connecticut, said of the Patriots after his team’s 108-89 win, according to ESPN. “I love watching them play, and I don’t take any of that for granted. I know how special [Belichick] is and that team is. I hope he never leaves. I hope he coaches 25 more years. He’s an amazing guy and an amazing coach.”
Belichick did leave . . . the basketball game. He split before it ended to return to getting ready for the Eagles.
“I grew up as a kid thinking that the Patriots never win the Super Bowl,” Thibodeau said. “We could get there, but we don’t win. And now my nephews, their view of it is entirely different. They think the Patriots should win it every year. That’s a good way to grow up. But I know how special that is. And no one in that area should ever take it for granted.”
