Firefighters and injured veterans from the New York metropolitan area, including Long Island, will make a 150-mile bicycle trip to honor the 343 city firefighters who perished in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

More than 100 firefighters from Engine 50, Ladder 19 and Battalion 26 in the Bronx, and three injured veterans, who will be riding special bicycles, and their friends will cycle from the One World Trade Center in lower Manhattan on Sept. 16. The trip will end in Montauk on Sept. 17.

Organizers hope to raise funds to benefit veterans who were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Donations can be made at fdny343ride.com via PayPal or checks can be made out and addressed to “FDNY 343 Ride,” 229-19 Merrick Blvd., Box 343, Laurelton, N.Y. 11413.
