Bodie Pitagno, Brian Boehm lead way for Babylon’s Class C victory
Bodie Pitagno found space off a feed from Brian Boehm and ran a few strides up the center of the field to score from 25 yards out, giving Babylon its first lead of the game in the first quarter.
Then, he did it again and again.
Pitagno converted a quick cycle pass on the right side of the net less than a minute later and drove from the right side of the net for his third goal in less than five minutes. Led by Pitagno and Boehm, who scored four goals and added two assists, Babylon beat Mattituck/Southold/Greenport, 12-4, to win its third straight Suffolk C Championship on Wednesday at Stony Brook. Babylon will play Cold Spring Harbor in the Long Island Class C Championship Saturday at Hofstra at 3:30 p.m.
“I thought it was a good team win,” Pitagno said. “Most of our shots were assisted, we really got everyone involved. This is our third in a row, it’s another step forward, but we’ve got to worry about the LIC.”
Mattituck (12-5) took the lead two minutes in on a goal by Jeff Hauser, but Boehm answered shortly after when his bouncer found the net for the equalizer. Babylon (13-4) had possession for most of the quarter and took a 4-1 lead behind a strong passing game, utilized when their dodges couldn’t break through.
The Panthers went on a 4-0 run in the second to go up 8-2 on goals from Boehm, Teddy Allen and Nick Antolini, who had two goals, and carried momentum into the second half.
“We have a lot of seniors that have been with us for four years, I think they grabbed the moment,” Babylon coach John Greaney said referring to Pitagno, Boehm and others. “The seniors led the way and everyone else followed suit.”
