An informational meeting is set for tonight on a $3 million federal stimulus project to revitalize downtown Center Moriches.

The project, set to begin in mid-March, will includes new sidewalks, streetlights, trash receptacles, benches, trees and tree wells.

The project should take about 90 days, said Gerry Sapanaro, treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches and a director of the Downtown Revitalization Organization of Center Moriches, which is spearheading the project.

“It’s an entire remake of our Main Street.”

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Project Act funds were secured through the Town of Brookhaven.

Sapanaro said the project is necessary to attract shoppers to local businesses.

The event will be held from 7-9 p.m. in the LGI Room at Center Moriches High School, 311 Frowein Rd., Center Moriches.
