Chaminade's Brendan Spagnuolo no-hits previously undefeated St. Dominic

Brendan Spagnuolo tossed a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and four walks for Chaminade (11-4) in a 10-0 CHSAA win over St. Dominic (11-1) on Friday, previously the only unbeaten baseball team on Long Island. The pitcher, who committed to Vanderbilt, got ahead of batters with a 94-mph fastball and mixed in his curve and changeup, coach Michael Pienkos said.

"I didn't even know it was a no-hitter" by the sixth, Pienkos said. "I went over to the book and they didn't want to tell me. If he has command, he's very hard to hit because he's throwing the ball 93, 94 mph.

"For them to get no-hit, that's surprising. He had pretty good command and kept them off balance. He pitched a smart game."

Stratton Podaras belted a three-run double in the third inning to put the Flyers up 4-0. Luke Zeccola was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

"My arm felt great today," Spagnuolo said. "I was bringing it up more in velocity, which was why I stuck with [my fastball]."
