Charges pending against LI health exec
New information has surfaced about a Huntington business executive in a Scoop column on Monday.
Kerri Winans-Kaley, 45, owner of Huntington-based CardiacScan Imaging Services, was indicted seven years ago in Miami on federal charges of conspiracy to transport stolen property, transportation of stolen property, obstruction of justice and money laundering. Her husband, Bruce, is facing the same charges, and a third person has been acquitted.
According to the indictment, Kaley -- the name used -- worked for a subsidiary of the medical company Johnson & Johnson for six years, ending in 2005. She and the others were charged with stealing medical devices and selling them.
Winans-Kaley pleaded not guilty, said her Florida attorney, Howard Srebnick. The case is pending, and no trial date has been set.
Winans-Kaley received $100,000 to start CardiacScan from the Community Development Corp. of Long Island, $35,000 of which came from the U.S. Small Business Administration. CDC president Marianne Garvin said in a statement: "This situation has highlighted an issue in our microloan underwriting, and we intend to review our internal policies and procedures."
