CHSAA/Independent Top 5 (as of April 15)
1. St. Anthony's (5-0)
The Friars keep it movin'. They defeated St. John the Baptist, 18-4, on Friday and improved to 4-0 in league. St. Anthony's, ranked fourth in the country by ESPN Rise (and third in LaxPower's most recent poll), will face its toughest challenges in the coming weeks. They'll play No. 3 Bryn Mawr (Md.) at noon Saturday in the New York-Maryland Challenge at St. Paul's School for Girls in Maryland. And next week they'll face CHSAA rival Sacred Heart and Garden City.
2. Sacred Heart (7-0)
The Spartans have taken great strides in establishing themselves as a power the last two seasons, and the biggest steps came last week. Sacred Heart swept Florida's top three teams, including 10th-ranked Vero Beach on Wednesday. Coming off that win, there was no let-up as they wracked Bishop Moore, 21-9, on Thursday. The Spartans are ranked No. 19 by ESPN Rise and will probably move up a few spots in the next poll.
3. Kellenberg (4-2)
The Firebirds improved to 2-1 in league with an 18-12 win over Our Lady of Mercy on Friday. Sarah Croutier scored six goals and Michelle Goss had five. Kellenberg will have its biggest test Monday, hosting Sacred Heart.
4. St. John the Baptist (2-2)
They've dropped their last two - to Kellenberg and St. Anthony's - but we won't hold the latter against them, so the Cougars still hold the fourth spot. Kaitlyn Montalbano had a goal and three assists in the loss to the Friars.
5. Long Island Lutheran (5-1)
The Crusaders have been off since the 19-7 win over Portledge on April 3. They'll host Brooklyn's Midwood at 5 p.m. Monday. Carolyn Dottino is third among CHSAA/IPPSAL players with 35 points (24 goals).
