Clancy's one-hitter leads West Babylon
Sophomore Dillon Clancy had his no-hit bid broken up on an infield single with one out in the seventh in his first varsity start, but still finished with a one-hitter in West Babylon's 8-0 win over visiting Riverhead on Friday in Suffolk League IV baseball. He had five strikeouts and two walks. Taylor Frisch went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run for the Eagles (3-0). Riverhead is 0-3.
North Babylon 1, Half Hollow Hills West 0: Mike Lyon scored on a squeeze bunt by Nick Dominsch in the bottom of the fifth for North Babylon (1-2). Luke Noone struck out 10 and allowed three hits in six innings. Mike Manning pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Hills West is 2-1.
West Islip 6, Newfield 5: Tom Woodburn's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth gave West Islip (2-1) a 6-5 lead in League III. Dan Jagiello's three-run triple tied the score at 5. Craig Kelly pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits and striking out four to help sophomore David Anholzer get his first varsity win. Newfield is 1-2.
Babylon 2, Westhampton 1: Joe Flanagan's walk-off single drove in Dan Cody in the bottom of the seventh for Babylon (1-2) in non-league. Matt Finelli threw a four-hitter with five strikeouts. Westhampton is 0-2.
GIRLS LACROSSEPort Washington 14, Kellenberg 13: Kaitlyn Brown, who finished with three goals, scored the winner with 5:18 left in the second half for Port Washington (5-2) in non-league. Alexa Froccaro had five goals and one assist, and cousin Jackie three goals and two assists. Katie Connery scored seven goals for Kellenberg (3-3).Sayville 17, Bellport 3: Taylor Mills scored three goals with one assist for Sayville (3-1) in Division II. Emily Meier and Maureen Taylor each added two goals and one assist for the Golden flashes.BOYS LACROSSESyosset 8, Hicksville 7:John Diaz scored unassisted with 2:48 left in the second overtime for Syosset (2-0) in Nassau Conference I. Frank Buffalino led the Braves with three goals, John Diaz scored two, and Ryan Feit made 12 saves. Sal Geneva scored three goals, including the tying goal on an assist from Tommy Geneva with 35 seconds left in regulation for Hicksville (2-1). Anthony Lomangino made 16 saves for the Comets, whose last three games have been decided by one goal.Uniondale 9, Plainview JFK 8: Sterling Waters scored on an assist from Deon Ellis with 3:30 left in the fourth quarter to give Uniondale (1-2) a 9-7 lead. Waters (three goals) and Ellis (three goals, two assists) each scored early in the fourth to tie the score at 7, and then Antoine Williams made it 8-7 with 5:00 to play.
