We’re only two weeks into the cross country season. That doesn’t mean we can’t make a few observations.

Hauppauge’s Ryan Colabella is very talented. The senior distance specialist had the best overall time at the Suffolk Coaches Invitational on Saturday, taking first in the varsity B race in 16:40.54.

St. Anthony’s took the varsity B race with 28 points, followed by Shoreham-Wading River (92).

Northport sophomore Mike Branigan took first in the varsity A race in 16:57.69. The Northport boy’s emerged victors in the varsity A race, taking first with 45 points. Smithtown (53) was second.

Among Nassau’s boy’s teams, Port Washington, East Meadow and Massapequa could be the cream of the crop. All three teams cruised to conference victories on Monday. East Meadow’s Sean Grady had the best time, taking first in the Conference I race in 13:08 minutes.

East Meadow, Massapequa, Syosset and Port Washington were all victorious in girls Conference I races on Monday. North Shore’s girls team cruised to another Conference IV victory.

Expect some changes to next week’s cross country top 5.
