A multicar collision involving this silver truck occurred on the Long Island Expressway eastbound lanes between exits 64 and 65. (July 27, 2010) Credit: Robert Garofalo

The Long Island Expressway has been closed between exits 64 and 65 eastbound due to a car accident.

Suffolk Police told News 12 Long Island that the crash occurred before 8:30 p.m. Two vehicles driving in the westbound lanes collided and ended up in the eastbound lanes of the expressway.

Two people were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, according to News 12. There was no word on their conditions or injuries.

Traffic could be seen backed up for a distance from the scene of the collision.

Exit 64 is located in Medford and leads to Medford Avenue (Rt. 112). Exit 65, also in Medford, leads to Horseblock Rd.
