2 rescued after boat tips

Two people were rescued Sunday when their vessel capsized near Ponquogue Bridge in Southampton, police said.

Southampton Town Bay Constable Danielle McManus responded to a radio report of a capsized vessel near the bridge at about 1:55 p.m., police said in a news release. She arrived at the scene to find an overturned 12-foot fiberglass Gamefisher with two people in the water, the release said.

The two were removed from the water with the help of a U.S. Coast Guard vessel and taken to the agency's Shinnecock station where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

Southampton Town police yesterday did not have the residences or identities of the two victims.SETAUKET

Driver sought in hit-run

Suffolk County's Sixth Precinct Crime Section is looking for the driver of a white Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle who police said drove away after hitting another vehicle in Setauket.

Police in a news release yesterday said the driver, a woman, hit a 2014 Kia on eastbound Route 347, just east of Pond Path, at 9:05 p.m. on Aug. 1.

The two vehicles pulled into a nearby gas station but the driver of the Mercedes fled before police arrived, according to the release.

The driver had long brown hair and a tattoo on her right ankle. Her vehicle had stolen license plates, police said.

The vehicle also was damaged on the driver's side.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477.
