CVS plan in Lindenhurst getting do-over

Plans for a proposed CVS pharmacy in Lindenhurst are being altered and an application for re-zoning of the site has been withdrawn.
Matrix Realty Associates LLC had applied to build a 24-hour CVS with a drive-through prescription window at the northeast corner of Montauk Highway and South Wellwood Avenue, to replace an existing smaller CVS several blocks north, at 150 S. Wellwood Ave. Residents turned out in large numbers during a planning board meeting on the project in March, many voicing concern about traffic and quality-of-life issues.
The proposal would have required rezoning, as most of the property is zoned residential, said Village Mayor Thomas Brennan. Brennan had said he would vote against it and that he knew of two other board members who also disapproved.
“It was just way too big,” he said.
Lindenhurst attorney Steve Kretz, who represents the project, said the plan is not dead and that CVS is drawing up a new layout for the site. The building will be slightly smaller, he said, and would no longer sit on any land zoned residential, though some parking would.
Kretz said the new plan would be a “positive step in making the application more palatable to the village in general.”
