It took only 40 seconds for West Islip to score in the state Class A championship game, as Rob Moore beat Fairport goalie Blaze Riorden between the legs for a 1-0 lead. Chris Button answered for Fairport from Section 5 less than a minute later.

The rest of the first quarter belonged to the state and nation’s No. 1 team. Drew Federico spun away for a low rocket with 4:42 left to make it 2-1. Moore scored from the perimeter 52 seconds later.

In the final minute, Nicky Galasso made a slick feed into the slot for Mike Sagl, who scored for a 4-1 Lions lead.
