The Floral Park Village board of trustees has announced its plan to consolidate voting locations for the upcoming village elections and also the end of the parking ticket amnesty program last month.
At Wednesday night’s meeting, the board unanimously approved a public notice detailing the plan to consolidate five polling locations into one for the March 19 village elections. The board had approved the consolidation in September, officials said.
The new polling location chosen to house the 12 election districts is the Floral Park Recreation and Pool Complex, 124 Stewart St. (also known as 2 Pool and Garage Rd.). The board picked the building because it is a large site and handicap-accessible.
The board made the decision in an effort to save $7,500 in costs associated with running voting machines and paying poll workers. Voting for the March elections will be from noon to 9 p.m.
Mayor Thomas J. Tweedy also said the village’s amnesty program that allowed scofflaws to pay outstanding parking fines incurred since 2005 ended on Dec. 31. The program allowed drivers to pay their fines without paying late-fee penalties in an effort to collect outstanding fines. About 25 percent of fines were collected, totaling about $45,000, officials said.
“We will still attempt to collect all the outstanding fines,” Tweedy said.
