For Foye, it's vacation, then a fresh start
What now for Patrick Foye?
The deputy Nassau County executive for economic development will soon find himself without a job, after his dramatic announcement earlier this week that he will resign rather than go along with a plan by the administration of County Executive Edward Mangano to sue the state to block a takeover of Nassau's finances by an oversight board.
Foye has held several jobs: downstate chairman of the Empire State Development Corp.; a Wall Street lawyer, chief executive of United Way of Long Island, and a LIPA trustee.
"If I were 25, I would go to work for Mark Fasciano or David L. Calone [both Long Island-based venture capitalists] and have a lot of fun and make a fortune," Foye said.
"If I wanted to go into the nonprofit world, I would work for Laura Cassell [chief executive of Catholic Charities] or Randi Shubin Dresner [chief executive of Island Harvest].
"If I were 25 and had the brains, I would go do research for the Feinstein Institute," the research branch of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.
But Foye is 54. He plans to remain to help settle the economic development matters undertaken during his tenure, but that he likely will leave in a few weeks. Then a short vacation is planned. Then it's back to work. But where?
"I think I will be returning to the private sector," Foye said. Could that include another stint on Wall Street?
"Possibly," he said.
