Gossip, the Melville gentlemen's nightclub on Route 110 that closed this summer, is undergoing a million-dollar renovation that includes an upscale steakhouse separate from the dance floor.

"This is not a place you walk into in a T-shirt and baseball cap. You can come here with a date, have a great meal, watch a ballgame on TV," said Brian Rosenberg, a Long Island nightlife impresario in charge of the launch. Rosenberg said the club's strippers would be partially visible through glass on the way into the restaurant.

The steakhouse has been conceived by Vincent Michaels, a respected restaurateur whose J. Michaels Tuscan Steakhouse in Northport earned three stars from Newsday's Peter M. Gianotti in 2012. A second branch in Oyster Bay, closed recently, was named Newsday's No. 1 restaurant of 2013.

Michaels characterized the Gossip restaurant, to be called Char602, as "a prime American steakhouse with a South Beach flair."
