BUSINESS ADVICE

Stony Brook Small Business Development Center (nwsdy.li/sbdc) at Stony Brook University, 631-632-9837, fax: 631-632-7176. Through the "Suffolk Forward" program, the SBDC offers COVID-19 Economic Recovery Assistance with business advisory, workshops and market research, as well as help with disaster applications. Suffolk County Community College Entrepreneurial Assistance Program in Brentwood provides training courses and seminars to those who are starting or expanding their own businesses (nwsdy.li/sccctrain), 631-851-6214.

Hofstra University’s Business Development Center provides education and support to business owners through seminars, workshops and boot camps (nwsdy.li/hofbusiness), bdc@hofstra.edu, 516-463-7214.

Long Island SCORE in Hauppauge at 631-454-0771, is a nonprofit organization offering free mentoring and educational workshops for entrepreneurs/small businesses owners (nwsdy.li/score).

La Fuerza Community Development Corp. (nwsdy.li/unida), 516-922-8100, provides economic growth opportunities to low-income, minority- and women-owned enterprises. Long Island Development Corp. in Hauppauge provides low-cost loans and technical assistance to help small businesses grow (nwsdy.li/lidcorp), 516-433-5000.

PROGRAMS

Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Grants of up to $10 million for independent movie theaters, concert halls, performing arts centers and other live entertainment venues for unpaid bills due to the pandemic (sba.gov/svog).

Economic Injury Disaster Loan from SBA. The loans have a term of up to 30 years and interest rates of 3.75% for businesses and 2.75% for nonprofits (sba.gov/eidl).

7(a) Loan from SBA. Program offers federally-guaranteed bank loans of up to $5 million to purchase a business with a building, refinance debt, buy equipment and supplies or for use as working capital (sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/7a-loans).

NYS COVID-19 Pandemic Small Business Recovery Grant Program. Grants of between $5,000 and $50,000 to reimburse small businesses and independent arts organizations for pandemic expenses incurred March 1, 2020 and April 1, 2021. Applications scheduled to open June 10 (NYSBusinessRecovery.ny.gov).

NYS Restaurant Resiliency Grant Program will distribute $25 million to restaurants that provide meals to distressed and under-represented communities. It hadn't opened as of May 27 (NYSBusinessRecovery.ny.gov).

NYS Restaurant Return-to-Work Tax Credit will distribute $35 million in state tax credits to support restaurants. Hadn't opened as of May 27 (NYSBusinessRecovery.ny.gov).

LEGAL

Nassau County Bar Association: Small businesses in Nassau County can email legal questions related to the COVID-19 pandemic to covidhelp@nassaubar.org, and a volunteer NCBA attorney will assist with a consultation (nwsdy.li/nassbar).

Suffolk County Bar Association: Lawyer referral service can be found at nwsdy.li/sufflegal; half-hour consultation with an attorney for $25, 631-234-5577.

Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce (nccchambers.org) provides links to local chambers of commerce in the county.

Suffolk County Alliance of Chambers (nwsdy.li/suffalliance) includes some local chambers of commerce and other business organizations. The Alliance offers a COVID-19 disaster relief resource list (nwsdy.li/resourcelist) that includes Small Business Administration updates; 631-223-8525.
