Scientists: Move over, egg -- the chicken came first

Scientists claim they finally have an answer to the age old question: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

According to reports by London’s Daily Mail, scientists have the answer: it’s the chicken.

Researchers have found that the protein necessary to create the shell of chicken eggs can only be found in chicken’s ovaries. Therefore, it must be the chicken, the Daily Mail reports.

“It had long been suspected that the egg came first but now we have the scientific proof that shows that in fact the chicken came first,” Dr. Colin Freeman, of Sheffield University’s Department of Engineering Materials told the Daily Mail.

Scientists from Sheffield and Warwick universities examined the egg shell using intense computer zoom-in equipment to see the formation, according to the report.
